Privacy Policy

ISummary

• There is no account and no sign-in. We do not ask for your name, your email address or any other personal details.
• Your progress and settings stay on your device. We do not run servers for the game.
• The app sends anonymous usage statistics, such as constellations completed, to Mixpanel so we can improve the game. They are not linked to your identity or your advertising ID, and you can turn them off in Settings.
• The app shows ads from Google AdMob. Google may collect device data to serve and measure ads, as described below.
• Where the law requires it, personalized ads are shown only with your consent, and your device’s advertising identifier is used only if you allow tracking.
• The app offers optional in-app purchases, including a subscription. Apple processes the payment and RevenueCat keeps an anonymous record of what was bought. We never see your name, email or payment details.

IIData stored on your device

Your progress is saved on your device only, in the app’s local storage: your level, the constellations you have played and the words you have found in them, your Sky Atlas, your stardust, wish jar and hints, your Tonight’s Sky streak and daily gifts, game statistics (such as words found and lines lit), the tips you have already seen, and your settings (music, nature sounds, sound effects, star melodies, haptics, reduce motion, word language and app language). The app also keeps simple counters of the ads you have seen and when, so it can space out ads and apply daily limits, and a record of your purchases, so it knows whether ads are removed and whether Starwort Plus is active.

This data may be included in your device’s own backups (iCloud Backup or a computer backup) if you have backups turned on. Apple stores backups under its own policies, and we cannot access them. Choosing Reset progress in Settings deletes your progress and stardust, and deleting the app deletes all of this data.

IIIAdvertising

The app shows occasional full-screen ads between levels, only after the first levels, and optional rewarded videos that you choose to watch for a reward, such as doubling your stardust. Ads are provided by Google AdMob, a service of Google LLC and its affiliates. There are no banner ads. To show ads, limit how often you see them, measure their performance and prevent fraud, the Google Mobile Ads SDK may collect and process:

• your device’s advertising identifier (the Apple IDFA), only if you allow tracking;
• your IP address and the approximate location derived from it;
• device and app information, such as device model, operating system, language and app version;
• how you interact with ads, such as ads shown, watched and tapped;
• crash, performance and other diagnostic data, which is used for analytics and not linked to your identity.

If you allow tracking on iPhone or iPad, Google may use this data, including the IDFA, to show you ads based on your activity in other companies’ apps and websites. Google processes this data under its own policies. Learn more in How Google uses information from apps that use its services and the Google Privacy Policy. We only receive aggregated reports from AdMob, such as the number of ads shown, which do not identify you.

IVUsage analytics

To understand which parts of the game work and which don’t, the app sends anonymous usage events to Mixpanel, an analytics service we use with servers in the European Union. These events include:

• constellations started and completed, and when a hint is used;
• the daily puzzle, Tonight’s Sky, started and completed;
• Shop visits, ads shown, and purchases started and completed, with the product and price (never payment details);
• device and app information, such as device model, operating system version, app version, language, and the country or region that Mixpanel derives from your IP address.

Events carry a random identifier created by the app when it is installed. It is not your advertising ID, and we never ask for your name, email or account. So that purchases can be matched with gameplay, this identifier is linked to the anonymous app user ID that RevenueCat uses for your purchases; we don’t combine it with any other data. This data is not sold, and it is not used for tracking or to show you ads. You can turn analytics off at any time with the Anonymous analytics switch in Settings. Mixpanel processes this data on our behalf under the Mixpanel Privacy Policy.

VConsent and your choices

The app uses Google’s consent tool (User Messaging Platform). If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, it asks for your consent before personalized ads are shown or information is stored on your device for advertising. You can change or withdraw your consent at any time from the privacy settings in the app, shown where these choices apply. Without consent, you may still see non-personalized ads, which use limited data such as your approximate location.

On iPhone and iPad, the app shows Apple’s App Tracking Transparency prompt before your device’s advertising identifier is used for tracking. The game is fully playable if you decline, and you can change your choice at any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking.

Depending on where you live, for example in some US states, you may have the right to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for targeted advertising. Where this applies, Google’s consent tool lets you opt out in the app’s privacy settings, and the device setting above also limits ad tracking.

VIIn-app purchases

The app offers optional in-app purchases: stardust packs, Remove Ads, the Starter bundle and the Starwort Plus monthly subscription. Payments are processed by Apple with your Apple Account, and we never receive your name, email, card or payment details. Purchases are managed with RevenueCat, which receives your purchase history (which items you bought and when, and the status of your subscription) and a random, anonymous app user ID created by the app, so purchases can be granted, renewed and restored. This is not linked to your identity. RevenueCat processes this data on our behalf under the RevenueCat Privacy Policy. Whether ads are removed or Starwort Plus is active is also stored on your device, to stop showing ads between levels.

VIIDevice features

The app does not use your camera, microphone, contacts, photos or location. It uses haptics for feedback, which you can turn off in Settings, and plays sound only while it is open.

VIIILegal bases

Where the GDPR or similar laws apply, personalized advertising and storing information on your device for advertising rely on your consent. Non-personalized ads, frequency limits, measurement and fraud prevention rely on the legitimate interest in funding a free game and keeping advertising safe. Anonymous usage analytics rely on the legitimate interest in improving the game. Processing purchases and subscriptions relies on performing the contract you enter into when you buy.

IXApp Store

The app is distributed through the Apple App Store. Apple may collect information when you download or use apps, such as purchase history or crash reports you choose to share, under its own privacy policy. Apple may give us aggregated, anonymous statistics, such as download counts and sales.

XChildren

The app is a general-audience game and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact us and we will delete it.

XIThis website

This website is a static site hosted on Cloudflare. It uses no cookies, analytics or ads. Your language choice is saved in your browser’s local storage. Cloudflare processes technical data such as IP addresses to deliver and protect the site, as described in the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.

XIIEmails

If you email us, for example about a purchase, we use your email address and the details you send only to help you, and delete them when they are no longer needed.

XIIIYour rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal information, or to object to its processing. We do not hold personal information that identifies you, other than emails you send us. Requests about advertising data are handled by Google through the choices described above, and purchase records are held by Apple and by RevenueCat. We can delete the anonymous analytics tied to your device if you email us. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
